Each year, the South Carolina Public Health Association recognizes outstanding professionals in the field of public health, including current SCPHA members and public health students. In addition, SCPHA recognizes members of the SC General Assembly and SC's U.S. Congressional delegates who demonstrate continued dedication and advocacy to improving the lives of all South Carolinians.

SCPHA Annual Awards Announcement

SCPHA 2024 Awards Committee are now accepting applications for consideration from SCPHA members. Awards will be presented during the 2024 SCPHA Annual Conference, March 25-28, 2024. The application for award nominations and a description and criteria for each of the awards are attached and can also be found on the SCPHA website. We would like to encourage all current SCPHA members to recognize an Association member(s) who has consistently exemplified our mission in public health or has gone above and beyond in carrying out their duties to aid in the success of our Association.

Deadline for submission is Friday, February 16, 2024. All electronic applications must be submitted in a MS word format. Please be sure you read the eligibility requirements carefully for each award. SCPHA Annual Student Scholarships Announcement

SCPHA is once again offering the Public Health Scholarship and the Malcolm U. Dantzler Scholarship. These scholarships are each $500. Undergraduates and graduate students who are members in good standing of SCPHA are eligible to apply.

Eligibility criteria for the Public Health Scholarship are:

  • Be a student enrolled in an accredited School of Public Health.
  • Be a current member in good standing in the South Carolina Public Health Association (SCPHA) during the year in which the scholarship application is made.
  • Have documentation of at least six (6) hours of study remaining before graduation (may include student’s work on practicum, thesis, or dissertation).
  • Demonstrate high academic and professional promise.
  • Achieve and maintain an academic performance of 3.5 or better (based on a GPA maximum of 4 points); and,
  • Exhibit significant commitment to the public health profession through volunteer and/or professional activity as indicated by the following:
    • Involvement in community activities.
    • Involvement in scholarly activities; and/or
    • Participation in related professional and/or student organizations.

Eligibility criteria for the Malcolm U. Dantzler Scholarship are:

  • Be enrolled in a course of study leading to a degree in a health-related field.
  • Be a current member, in good standing, of the South Carolina Public Health Association (SCPHA) for at least the year in which the scholarship application is made.
  • Have documentation of at least six (6) hours of study remaining before graduation (may include student’s work on practicum, thesis, or dissertation).
  • Demonstrate high academic and professional promise.
  • Achieve and maintain an academic performance of 3.5 or better (based on a GPA maximum of 4 points); and,
