This theme reflects a shared responsibility among public health professionals, partners, and communities to work together toward a healthier future. In South Carolina, this effort is strengthened by Governor Henry McMaster’s official proclamation of April 2026 as Public Health Month, recognizing the essential role public health plays in improving quality of life across the state. Public health initiatives have contributed to longer life expectancy and improved health outcomes through disease prevention, health education, sanitation, immunizations, workplace safety, and emergency preparedness. Public health professionals work across communities to monitor health trends, prevent illness and injury, respond to emergencies, and promote healthy behaviors across the lifespan.
