SCPHA Executive Director
Meet Jessica Seel, MPH
" I stepped into the role of Executive Director for SCPHA in January 2026, and I couldn't be more energized about what lies ahead for this organization.
I spent the first part of my career in healthcare, then decided to go back to school, earning a degree in social work from Columbia College and an MPH from USC's Arnold School of Public Health. There, I found a family of amazing public health advocates who showed me the ropes and have supported me in my work ever since. That community shaped how I approach this field, and it's part of why I'm so invested in what SCPHA can become.
Alongside my role at SCPHA, I currently serve as co-president of my own public health consulting firm, working with organizations across the state on everything from program design to policy strategy. My roots in South Carolina public health run deep. I got my start at the Arnold School of Public Health with the Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network, and most recently served at the SC Office of Rural Health as Director of Behavioral Health Initiatives and Workforce Development, connecting rural communities with the resources and support they need. Every stop along the way has fueled my drive to push this field forward here at home.
Outside of work, I'm a huge Gamecock fan, I spend my summers boating on Lake Murray, I stay active and prioritize fitness, and most of all, I love my family — including my six grandkids.
I believe in letting communities lead — showing up, listening, and building with people rather than imposing solutions from the outside. That's the approach I'm bringing to this next chapter with SCPHA: rolling up my sleeves, growing what we offer, and pushing for a stronger, healthier South Carolina alongside all of you."
